UNICEF Costume Party

Dream: Creating a Better World

Trick or Treat for UNICEF!

UNICEF is a global leader in child immunization. The procurement of vaccines is UNICEF's largest procurement activity, worth $757 million in 2010. Last year, UNICEF provided 2.5 billion doses of vaccines to 99 countries, reaching an estimated 58% of the world's children. UNICEF has also come up with some unique ways to make education accessible to all children.

Every child has the right to an education. Education transforms lives and breaks the cycle of poverty that traps so many children. An educated child will make sure her own children receive an education.

Whether we're building schools, making classrooms mobile, training teachers, or even rebuilding an entire educational system—we will do whatever it takes to support a child's right to education. For more info, click on the Education Icon or this link

Health = Wealth

Yoga Life Lessons
JEAN CHATZKY

Researchers have stumbled upon a supercool truth: People who lose pounds tend to also build wealth. Here, ways to harness the power of positive change

James Prochaska, Ph.D., director of the Cancer Prevention Research Center at the University of Rhode Island—and one of the country's leading experts in the field of behavioral change—has helped tens of thousands of people quit smoking, reduce their stress, and lose excess weight by prepping them for the change. His fundamental belief is that the big reason so many people give up on their (goals is that they didn't do enough to prepare themselves to take action daily). "Change is a process," he says, "not an event. And 80% of people aren't prepared when they start."

How do you lay the groundwork? Getting ready = moving consciously through several stages.
That might mean thinking about the cool vacation you could save for when you no longer have those big credit-card bills to contend with, or the thrill of fitting back into your favorite skinny jeans.
Then comes the next stage, "contemplation," when you are seriously thinking about making a change. When you're at this stage, it helps to focus on how the pros of taking some kind of action outweigh the cons.
Don't Try Too Much Too Soon (Take small action steps daily)

Pick the Right Friends (I  am looking for an accountability partner who's committed to personal growth. I am also open to working with a mentor and a business partner )

I Love Nature

The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,

Does Your Kid Like to Read?

I Love to Read!
How to get your kid to be a fanatic reader (Patterson's most recent book, "Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life" is a No. 1 New York Times and No. 1 Indiebound best-seller)

(CNN) -- You're reading an excerpt from CNN.com by James Patterson, Special to CNN

Sorry, moms and dads, but it's your job -- not the schools' -- to find books to get your kids reading and to make sure they read them.

Here's some good news: This can often be as easy as teaching children to ride a two-wheeler or to throw a baseball.

Case in point: When our son, Jack, was 8, he wasn't a gung-ho reader.
We told him he didn't have to mow the lawn (hooray!), but he was going to read every day (boo).
We also told Jack we’d help him find books we promised he would like: the Mom-and-Dad "Reading Can Be a Joy" Guarantee. We picked out "The Lightning Thief," a book in the "Warriors" series, "A Wrinkle in Time," etc.

Here's a simple but powerful truth that many parents and schools don't act on: The more kids read, the better readers they become.
The best way to get kids reading more is to give them books that they'll gobble up -- and that will make them ask for another. Yes, it's that simple. 1 + 1 = 2. Kids say the No. 1 reason they don't read more is that they can't find books they like.

Just Like My Child

love Just Like My Child: This Foundation has partnered with a local Ugandan Girls' Leadership Counselor, FIDA a league of women's rights attorneys who work in the same communities that Just Like My Child is serving in. "Why Africa? Many children here in the United States need love and care, but there are children living in poverty and despair with no hope to carry them through the day." Vivian Glyck, the Founder realized that the secret to helping Uganda lies not in waiting for the government to step in and help, but to channel aid, resources, and equipment DIRECTLY to the people who are already making a difference on the ground. Her mission is to empower women and children to achieve their full potential through improved Health Care, Education and Microenterprise.
