Yoga Therapy

Susan Raglin aka "Anasuya" has been a dancer all her life. She was into ballet, modern dance and martial arts. At age sixteen, she took some yoga classes, but was more into dance. She "blew out" her knee (tearing the ACL) 10-12 years ago. After physical therapy, she turned to yoga to help her heal from the injury. In 1986, she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a common syndrome in which a person has long-term, body-wide pain and tenderness in the joints, muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues. Fibromyalgia has also been linked to fatigue, sleep problems, headaches, depression, and anxiety. According to Anasuya, yoga helps her in managing pain with deep, slow breathing and relaxing. She has taught yoga for over 20 years In 1994-95, she was certified as a yoga teacher. In 2004-05, she graduated from LMU and was certified to teach yoga therapy. Vini yoga focuses on adapting the poses to the needs of students, a majority of them are over 50 years old who suffer from some type of injury. "Be real with what you can really do and what's healthy." Anasuya said in our interview.
